a magazine for all ages Review by Iris

I've been subscribing to Cricket since about 1975. I'm an illustrator and graphic designer so I got it partly to enjoy the many different styles of illustration. But I've always enjoyed the short stores, folktales, histories, adventures and comments by the bugs, etc. I've imaged a high student reading a text book and seeing a footnote for the first time, then realizing that the bugs' comments in the margins of Cricket were footnotes. The Letterbox has been a charming way to learn about children around the U.S. and the world. Tonight while my husband was doing the dishes I read him two Cricket's stories. Somehow this February's issue was out of place and I just found it today. First I read him "Hidden Heritage." We both are aware of the horrors in Chinese history. We were impressed with the telling of the story, made appropriate for young children, yet true to the history...and the Author's Note at the end was perfect. I plan to share the story and Author's Note at an intellectual's Meetup we attend each month, and I'll share it with many of our friends who care about the history of China. I just ordered a copy of that issue to give as a gift to a newspaper reporter who writes about China. Then I read "Pond Water" to my husband. He enjoyed it as much as I had. I'm 78-1/2 and my husband will be 87 in December. You don't have to be 9 to 14 to appreciate good and clever writing. Thank you for years of pleasure.

Still the best gift ever Review by Violet

I adored Cricket as a child--everything about the magazine from the stories, poems, Ugly Bird's crossword puzzle, and the ongoing saga of Cricket & Ladybug & friends along the bottom of the pages. Every issue was like a whole, enchanting world of delight for me. I hoarded those issues for my entire childhood, until I moved out and they were passed on to my younger cousins. Later, when I became a mother myself, my cousin who had delighted over them herself boxed them up and mailed them to my daughter. Obviously, after seeing my child devour issue after raggedy, but beloved old issue of Cricket, I ordered the magazine for her--which she loved getting in the mail just as much as I had. The full-color, glossy illustrations only add to the charm of this gorgeous childhood treasure--nothing has been taken away from the top-notch intellectual content. Now I have ordered Click for my little niece and Spider for my nephew while I wait for them to develop the reading skills to savor Cricket. Thank you so much for continuing to produce these wonderful magazines.

Thanks for the memory Review by Trissina K. age 33

When I was a little girl my grandpa gave me a subscription to this magazine as a gift. As an avid reader, I was so excited to have new short stories to read every month and always loved the bug characters—especially haughty Ladybug—scattered throughout the whole issue.

Even though I have since gone to college, moved to another state, gotten married, every time I visit my home in Arizona there are a handful of issues ready for me to read. This past October I went home there on the table was the newest issue of Cricket that had just arrived in the mail. I was so excited I immediately sat down and read it!

Thank you for providing a warm childhood memory that has lasted forever. You are all incredible, and my grandpa is too for providing many, many years of the generous gift of stories. Happy 80th Birthday Papa!

Just renewed Review by Mesa B. age 16

This Christmas my mom renewed by two-year subscriptions to Cricket and Cicada! She also got Muse, Cobblestone, Faces, etc., for my siblings. I have eight younger siblings, so at the beginning of each month our mailbox is stuffed. It’s the best!
